Pumps

The challenge

In industrial pumps such as centrifugal pumps, signs of wear are particularly evident on components that are directly exposed to high flow velocities, particles in the pumping medium, pressure changes or movements. These include mechanical seals and shaft seals, which tend to leak due to friction and temperature, as well as bearings, which can fail due to vibrations or overheating. Impellers are also subject to heavy loads and are at risk from erosion, cavitation or corrosion, while wear rings and housing areas are damaged by abrasion, particles or pressure surges. Shafts can also be affected by scoring or material fatigue. Typical consequences are cavitation, corrosion, overheated bearings, imbalances and leakages.

The solution: Retrofitting your machine or plant

Our retrofit kit is installed with a vibration sensor at a suitable point on the pump, whereby the sensor is attached directly to the housing. Optionally, a temperature sensor can be added to gain even deeper insights into the condition of bearings and seals. The kit is designed so that up to five sensors can be connected simultaneously. In this way, several pumps can be monitored in parallel and their operating status continuously analyzed: efficiently, reliably and without major installation effort.

Deep Dive: AI analysis

The AI-supported analysis of the sensor data provides precise indications of leaks in mechanical seals and shaft seals as well as the onset of bearing wear, which manifests itself in vibrations or overheating. Changes that indicate erosion, cavitation or corrosion on impellers as well as abrasion and pressure damage on wear rings and housing areas are also detected. Scoring and material fatigue on shafts can also be identified. In this way, impending failures can be avoided at an early stage, maintenance measures can be planned in a targeted manner and spare parts can be scheduled efficiently: with the positive side effect of optimizing stock levels and sustainably increasing system availability.
